Eid & Mother’s Day: A Gift That Saves Lives
Eid Mubarak!
From the onset of the blessed month of Ramadan till today, we have all tried our best to have a spiritual makeover. From waking up for Tahajjud, gulping gallons of water at dawn, restraining anger throughout the day and feeling immense gratitude at Iftaar, our lives have felt incredible throughout the month. And what’s even more special, that it almost feels like payday because after a month of discipline and spiritual efforts, we are rewarded with joy and celebration. Eid is like a victory lap or finishing line of a marathon, wherein we celebrate the patience and growth we gained in Ramadan. A million ‘Alhamdulillah’ for being given this opportunity.
Strangely, after a month of fasting, we become so used to by abstaining from food and water during daylight, that taking the first sip of water on Eid morning brings a mix, a Sheer Khurma (Eid dessert) of emotions—hesitation, conviction, relief, even disbelief—until we finally accept the reality that the fast is over and it’s okay to eat and drink now.
But then, as the cool water soothes your throat, you are instantly reminded of the blessing we take for granted- of safe, clean drinking water, a gift so many of us barely think about.
One wonders what is it like to be in a situation where that first sip of water wasn’t guaranteed. Imagine waking up on Eid morning, not to a feast or colourful clothes, laughter or hanging out with friends, but to the same exhausting routine—walking miles and miles, under scorching sun, just to fetch a few litres of water that might not even be safe to drink. This is the daily reality for countless mothers across the world.
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ahmad)
While the world celebrated Mother’s Day just yesterday and rejoices on the occasion of Eid today, many mothers in difficult conditions are still struggling to provide even a single drop of clean water for their children. Every single day, they just toil relentlessly, not knowing if their struggle would quench their family’s thirst or might invite horrible diseases for their little ones. Sadly, the realities they live are something we cannot even imagine.
Through Penny Appeal’s Thirst Relief appeal, we all can ease this burden. Your donation and our dedication could help build sustainable water wells, bringing relief to struggling families and ensuring that a mother never has to choose between her child’s safety and their survival.
This Eid, as we give thanks for our blessings, let’s extend our gratitude by being a source of hope for struggling families in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and many more regions where it’s never survival of the fittest- because even the strongest could die of thirst.
This Eid, your donation could change lives, honour the dedication of mothers, and bring immense barakah to your home.
Make this Eid truly meaningful—donate today and be a lifeline for a mother in need.
May Allah (SWT) accept your generosity and shower you and your loved ones with endless mercy and blessings.
