From Your Fast to Their Relief
Ramadan is a time to share blessings and care for those in need. Sometimes, fasting can be difficult due to illness, age, or other challenges or mistakes happen and a fast is broken.
Fidya and Kaffarah turn these moments into food for the hungry, support for the vulnerable, and blessings for all.
What is Fidya?
Fidya is a charitable donation given when a Muslim cannot fast and cannot make up the missed days later- for example in case of old age, poor health, pregnancy complications or health conditions that do not support your fasting.
The Qur’an reminds us:
“…Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship…” (Qur’an 2:184)
Through Fidya, you provide two meals a day for each missed fast of Ramadan for those who are desperately in need, while helping children, families, and elderly people celebrate Eid with dignity and joy. Even if you cannot fast, your donation could bring relief and blessings to someone in need.
What Is Kaffarah?
Fasting during Ramadan is obligatory for all Muslims, unless you have a valid reason not to.
But if someone intentionally breaks a fast without a valid reason, Islam gives a way to make things right. The person must either:
- Fast for 60 consecutive days (skipping days like Eid when fasting is not allowed), or
- If that’s not possible, feed 60 people in need.
This is the beauty of Kaffarah which not only helps us to compensate for our mistakes but also helps a family receive support and live with dignity.
Why are Fidya and Kaffarah Important?
Both Fidya and Kaffarah show Islam’s spirit of mercy and care for others:
- Fidya lets those unable to fast still do something good and help others.
- Kaffarah helps a person repent while providing food and support to those in need.
Giving Fidya or Kaffarah transforms your worship into real relief for others.
