How Your Ramadan Donations Are Supporting Palestinians in Gaza and Refugee Camps

This Ramadan, Penny Appeal’s donors have continued to make a powerful difference to the lives of Palestinians facing extraordinary hardship in Gaza and refugee camps across the region.

For many families, the holy month has arrived amid ongoing displacement, food shortages, and limited access to clean water. Yet through the compassion and generosity of our supporters, essential aid has continued to reach those who need it most.

From hot iftar meals to food parcels and life-saving water distributions, your donations have helped ensure that thousands of Palestinians can access basic necessities during Ramadan.

Helping Families Break Their Fast with Dignity

For families experiencing food insecurity, the simple act of breaking their fast can be a daily struggle. Thanks to Penny Appeal donors, hot iftar meals have been prepared and distributed to communities across Gaza.

Throughout Ramadan, freshly cooked meals have reached families in several areas, including Al Maghazi, Al Mawasi in Khan Younis, Al Daraj in Gaza, and Al Shefaa. At some distribution points, communal cooking pots have been used to prepare large quantities of food (including freshly cooked chicken and rice) ensuring hundreds of people can enjoy a nourishing meal together.

Each day, between 300 and 350 beneficiaries have been able to break their fast through these communal meals, offering comfort and relief to families who might otherwise go without.

Earlier in the month, additional hot iftar meals were also distributed in Al Shate’e, helping more families experience the spirit of Ramadan despite the difficult circumstances they face.

Providing Essential Food Packs

Alongside hot meals, Penny Appeal teams have also been preparing and distributing Ramadan food parcels designed to support families throughout the month.

In Al-Shati in Gaza, volunteers worked to prepare food packs containing essential staples used in everyday cooking. These parcels were then distributed to families in need, ensuring households had the ingredients required to prepare meals during Ramadan. Food packs have reached communities including:

• Al-Shati, Gaza – 50 food parcels distributed, supporting around 350 beneficiaries
• Al Maghazi, Middle Gaza – 50 food parcels distributed, supporting around 350 beneficiaries

For families navigating extremely challenging conditions, these parcels provide vital support and allow parents to feed their children during the holy month.

Delivering Clean Water to Communities in Need

Access to safe drinking water remains a critical issue for many Palestinians, particularly in densely populated areas where infrastructure has been severely strained.

With the help of Penny Appeal donors, water distribution efforts have been carried out in multiple communities. These deliveries have provided thousands of litres of clean water to families who would otherwise struggle to access safe supplies.

Recent distributions include:

• Al Zawayida (Middle Gaza) – 6,000 litres of water, supporting around 1,500 beneficiaries
• Al Daraj (Gaza) – 7,000 litres of water, supporting around 1,750 beneficiaries
• Al Dira (Gaza) – further water distributions helping families access safe drinking water

In places where water shortages are part of daily life, these deliveries play a crucial role in protecting health and enabling families to cook, drink, and maintain basic hygiene.
