Palestine needs us!
Over 4000 of our brothers and sisters across Palestine have been killed and over 11,000 have been injured, the heart-breaking reality is that by the time you finish reading this blog, these numbers will have increased yet again – Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illahi Rajioon.
The constant threat of further air strikes and a full ground invasion has the people of Palestine in desperate need and fearing for their lives. Parents have no time to mourn their children, and children have no way to understand why their parents and siblings have been taken from them. Amid relentless bombings and panic racing through their bodies, the civilians who have made it this far are now fighting the clock as supplies will begin to run out over the coming days and they anticipate whether they will live to see another day.
For more than 10 days, the people of Gaza have had a ‘complete siege’ imposed upon them, cutting them off from basic supplies like food, water, fuel, and power. Civilians are enduring unprecedented shortages of essentials needed for survival. We are waiting for aid corridors to open so we can continue helping the people of Palestine. Our hearts are aching for the people of Palestine, and we understand the feelings of helplessness as we watch the situation develop, but there is still so much we can do.
Penny Appeal have supported Palestine since 2014, setting up multiple projects from helping build hospitals and schools to distributing critical aid. Our work in Palestine continues, and if ever there was a time to help – IT IS NOW!
Our partners are on the ground right now in Gaza and are working tirelessly to distribute what life-saving aid we have left to vulnerable families. However, the need outweighs anything anyone planned for. Gaza is on the brink of collapse, with thousands desperate to survive. Relentless bombing and denial of any outside access means that it’s only a matter of time before the situation becomes even more deadly.
We’re currently working with our partners to up-scale our aid distribution, and we need your help. The Rafah Crossing is set to open any time now and we’re taking every step to ensure we have enough aid to deal with the immense demand which stands before us the minute the green light is given.
Our Director of Marketing and Communications, Ahmad Bostan has been live on Sky News and ITV discussing the danger of trying to evacuate over a million people from North Gaza, describing the Gaza Strip as ‘one of the most densely populated areas on earth.’ Ahmad also spoke about the opening of the Rafah Crossing and the deal for 20 truckloads of aid to be allowed into Gaza. He said, ‘we need well over 100 trucks a day to begin to start to address the huge needs of the Palestinian people’.
While this unprecedented period can leave many of us with feelings of dread, helplessness and despair, it is important that we never give up hope. While we sit in the comfort of our homes, surrounded by our loved ones, we may find ourselves thinking ‘how can we help?’ Keep our brothers and sisters in your thoughts and prayers, their courage and bravery are unmatched. Please continue to donate anything you can to ensure we have all the supplies we need to respond to the thousands who need us. Join us and stand with Palestine in their ultimate hour of need.
