Al-Aqsa Needs You - Blood Spilled In The Holy Lands
Once again, the blessed month of Ramadan has witnessed deplorable violence against innocent civilians across Palestine. Already enduring the daily indignities of dire poverty and frequent blockades, yesterday saw hundreds of worshippers attacked in Al-Aqsa Mosque, with over 150 individuals - including women and children - seriously injured. Penny Appeal is on the ground right now, building on our decade-long work across Palestine. Read on to learn more.
Violence Wreaked on Worshippers
The third holiest site in Islam, Masjid Al-Aqsa, was stormed on the morning of 15th April 2022, being the second blessed Jumu’ah of the month of Ramadan. Hundreds of injured worshippers have been rushed to hospital for a range of urgent treatments.
The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service, one of Penny Appeal’s partners in Palestine, evacuated 67 worshippers who had been hit by rubber coated steel bullets, stun grenades and batons.
Penny Appeal has responded swiftly to the escalation in violence and are working alongside our extended network to support the already struggling Al-Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem. Right now, we are providing life-saving medical aid to those that have been injured while simply fulfilling their religious duties during this blessed month.

The Land of Prophets Needs You This Ramadan
It was this very site, during the night of al-Israa’ wal Me’raaj, that Allah (SWT) assembled every single Prophet in history from Adam to Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Dawud (David), Isa’ (Jesus) and had them all led in prayer by our Master and Guide, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings upon him and all the Prophets.
This is a land that Prophets roamed, lived in and were buried in. Each of their lives have countless lessons for us to reflect; like the Palestinians today, many of them faced persecution, violence and hardship. Their stories teach us that those who stand for love, peace and harmony and their supporters are always victorious in the end.
Penny Appeal on the Ground NOW in Palestine
Thanks to your generous support, Penny Appeal have had a significant presence in the Holy Lands, serving those in need for over the past decade. Today, we are providing much-needed critical medical aid to those injured – this includes medical consumables such as bandages, blood bags, and other equipment, as well as essential medicines and IV antibiotics.
We are also providing food packs to Palestinian people this Ramadan in Al-Aqsa, fulfilling the Prophetic command to serve, and feed one another, not least those in need.
Right now, Penny Appeal is working closely with Al-Makassed Charitable Hospitain Jerusalem, which has been a close partner organisation and recipient of our support for several years. The Hospital was founded in 1968 and has grown into the leading medical centre in Palestine, equipped with over 250 beds and 13 different wards. It is also the only Palestinian healthcare facility providing access to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which Penny Appeal has been helping to expand.

- Much, much more!
In recent months we have been focusing on long-term sustainability and recovery projects in Gaza following 2021’s spike in violence against Palestinians.
This has included:
- Direct financial support for people with disabilities

As long as suffering continues in these blessed lands, our brothers and sisters in Palestine will remain trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty and blockade – but that doesn’t mean you can’t help people in need right now. As a charity, Penny Appeal has developed a range of both short- and long-term sustainable humanitarian solutions, to address both the urgent humanitarian needs while always keeping the wider end goal in mind.
Today, our sacred site of Al-Aqsa is in the news and we are reminded of the brutal violence that worshippers face every day. Tomorrow, the Holy lands may not be in the news, but that does not mean our brothers and sisters there are not suffering.
