Capital to Start a Small Business

£500

Help a struggling family break free from poverty by providing the means to start a small business like a market stall or livestock.

For many families living in poverty, a small business is more than just a source of income- it’s a chance to regain independence, restore dignity, and build a life   free from hardship. But without the necessary tools or capital, this dream   remains out of reach.  By gifting a small-scale enterprise, you empower a family to start their own venture — whether it’s selling goods at a market stall, raising livestock, or another sustainable livelihood tailored to their community. This vital support provides a steady income, food security, and a path towards long-term stability.  Small businesses not only transform individual lives, but they uplift entire communities creating hope that spreads far beyond one family.

Why Give a Small-Scale Enterprise?

  • Provides families with the means to earn sustainable income
  • Restores dignity and independence
  • Supports food security through livestock or trade
  • Helps break the cycle of poverty with lasting impact

Rooted in Faith

“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter.” - Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) [Sahih Muslim]

A Shop Full of Hope

A lady in traditional clothing sits inside of a small shop with a Penny Appeal banner in the background.
When Tasleem Tahira’s husband passed away, she suddenly found herself alone in Mohra Nori with three young daughters and no income. Every day was a painful choice — should she spend what little she had on food, school fees, or basic necessities?

Her brother helped her open a small grocery shop, but with only a few items on the shelves, customers rarely came, and the income was barely enough to survive. Tasleem lay awake at night, worrying about how to feed her children and keep them in school.

Through Penny Appeal’s Livelihood Support Initiative, Tasleem received the stock she needed to turn her shop into a fully equipped store for her community. Now, her shop is bustling with customers, her income is steady, and she can afford nutritious meals and school expenses for her daughters.

"Before Penny Appeal’s help, my shop was nearly empty. Now, my shelves are full, customers come every day, and I can provide for my family with dignity. My life has truly changed because of your support." - Tasleem

What was once an almost-empty shop is now a thriving business — and a proud mother’s lifeline to a brighter future.
