Pakistan 78 Years On – Turning Freedom Into Hope for All
"And whoever saves a life, it is as if he had saved all of mankind" – Qur’an 5:32
As we revel in the blessed month of Rabiul Awwal and prepare for the heartwarming event of MIlad-un-Nabi (ﷺ) our brothers and sisters in Pakistan have been experiencing the worst nightmare that most of us would even shudder to imagine.
Since mid-August, regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and parts of Punjab have been devastated beyond measure due to the catastrophic floods, landslides and cloudburst.
Entire villages have been swallowed by the torrents. Families who once gathered around warm homes are now huddled under open skies. Mothers cradle hungry children with nothing to feed them. Fathers, once breadwinners, watch helplessly as their crops and livestock – their only livelihood – are swept away in seconds.
The devastation is beyond words, and the pain cuts deep into the heart. Innocent families cry out in desperation, their voices trembling with grief, rising to the heavens in plea for Allah’s (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) infinite mercy.
819 lives lost - families torn apart in a heartbeat.
1,111 injured - countless people fighting to survive.
8,658 homes damaged and over 56,000 people displaced.
6,138 livestock perished - livelihoods gone in an instant.
334 schools ruined - children’s education left in ruins.
More than 1,600 villages submerged, affecting 1.2 million people across 19 districts.
Communities in Buner, Swat, and Shangla are still struggling, many remain missing, and families are broken.
Punjab faces rising river levels due to heavy rainfall and cross-border inflows, with districts including Narowal, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Lahore, and Hafizabad experiencing medium-level flooding.
The next 12–24 hours are critical as the situation could worsen. Subhan’Allah, this is not just a statistic. These are mothers, fathers, and children - our brothers and sisters in humanity and in faith.
At Penny Appeal, our teams are working day and night to save lives. From the very first wave of destruction, we have been there: rescuing families, providing shelter, delivering food, and serving safe water.
16,466 fresh meals have been served.
90,591 litres of clean drinking water delivered.
Medical aid for 2,255 people administered.
6.4 km of roads cleared to reach stranded families.
493 households supported with essentials, including 100 debris removal kits, 806 hygiene kits, 806 tarpaulin sheets, and 517 food packages.
But the need is immense. Our work can only continue with your help.
Mercy in the Month of Mercy
This disaster unfolds in the blessed month of Rabi’ al-Awwal – the month in which the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the mercy to mankind, graced this world with his blessed light.
The Prophet (ﷺ) was described as “more generous than the blowing wind” (Sahih al-Bukhari) as his radiant, compassionate and loving personality bought relief to many broken hearts without expecting anything in return. He (ﷺ) never turned away the needy, and he taught us that the best of people are those who bring benefit to others.
To give relief to the suffering in this sacred month is not only charity – it is Sunnah in action. It is a chance to follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet (ﷺ)، whose entire life was a legacy of compassion.
You too can follow his steps and bring hope back to families who have lost everything:
£50 – Provide food and water for a family.
£200 – Supply critical medical aid.
£300 – Offer temporary shelter to a displaced family.
Your support could mean the difference between despair and survival.
O Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى), as the Prophet (ﷺ) was a mercy to all, let Your mercy reach the flood-affected families in Pakistan. Ease their pain, protect them, and let us follow his example in serving them. Ameen.
Act Now: Be Their Lifeline
Every moment is critical. Every donation is a lifeline. As the waters rise, let us rise in generosity. In this blessed month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, let our actions reflect the mercy of the Prophet (ﷺ).
Every Penny Helps Thank you.
