Give Qurbani in India: Honouring the Forgotten
“The most beloved of deeds to Allah is bringing joy to a fellow Muslim.” (Tabarani)
While the world often looks at India through the lens of growth, there is a quieter, more painful reality for millions living in its rural heartlands and urban slums. For a father in a remote village or a widow in a crowded settlement, Eid al-Adha is a day of spiritual devotion- but it is often marked by the heartache of having no special meal to share with their children. In these communities, fresh meat is a luxury that has been priced out of reach by rising costs.
A Lifeline for the Millions Left Behind
India is home to one of the largest populations of people living in extreme hardship. The scale of the need is a call to our collective compassion:
- The Hunger Gap: Despite being a major food producer, India is home to one-quarter of the world’s hungry people, with millions struggling to afford two square meals a day.
- Childhood Malnutrition: Nearly 35% of children under five in India suffer from stunting, a direct result of chronic malnutrition and a lack of protein in their early years.
- The Burden of Poverty: For the 230 million people living below the poverty line, the "celebration" of Eid is often just another day of survival.
Sharing the Joy of Eid with Rehana
In a small mud and straw hut in Bihar, 65-year-old Rehana Khatun does her best to look after her granddaughter and daughter-in-law. Since losing her son during the pandemic, life has been a quiet struggle. As a seasonal labourer, work is hard to find, and special meals are a luxury the family simply cannot afford.
For Rehana, the hardest part of poverty is seeing the children crave nutritious food, like meat, that she rarely has the means to buy. "Our festivities are always quiet," she shared softly, "because we have nothing to celebrate with."
This Eid, your kindness changed that. Rehana visited our Penny Appeal distribution site and returned home with a fresh Qurbani pack- not just a meal, but a gift of dignity and joy for a grandmother who had almost forgotten what it felt like to be seen.

Why is there a need for Qurbani donations in India?
India is home to a significant population living below the poverty line, where many families are trapped in a cycle of food insecurity. For these communities, fresh meat is an expensive luxury they can rarely afford. By giving your India Qurbani 2026, you are providing essential protein to children and the elderly who face chronic malnutrition, ensuring they can celebrate Eid with a nutritious meal and a sense of dignity.
How does Penny Appeal ensure my Qurbani in India is performed correctly?
We take the trust of our donors very seriously. Every animal for our India Qurbani program is sourced from local farmers, ensuring it meets all Shariah requirements regarding health, age, and quality. The sacrifice is performed humanely by trained professionals immediately after the Eid prayer, and the meat is distributed fresh to the most vulnerable families in rural villages and urban slums.
Can I give my Qurbani in India if I live in the UK?
Yes! Many of our donors in the UK choose to give their Qurbani in India because it allows them to extend their sacrifice to one of the most populous and needy regions in the world. Your UK donation goes a long way in India, helping us reach "forgotten" communities that larger aid organizations often overlook. It’s a beautiful way to share your blessings with the global Ummah.
Who receives the Qurbani meat in India?
We prioritise those who are most at risk of hunger and social exclusion. This includes widows, orphaned children, the elderly, and families living in extreme poverty. By working with local teams who understand the specific needs of their communities, we ensure your Qurbani donation reaches the hands of those who truly have no other way to celebrate the blessed days of Eid al-Adha.
What is the impact of my Qurbani on the local Indian economy?
One of the unique benefits of our program is that we source livestock directly from small-scale local farmers. This means your Qurbani 2026 donation doesn’t just feed a hungry family; it also supports the livelihoods of poor farmers in India, helping to stimulate the local economy and provide a sustainable source of income for those struggling to provide for their own families.
