OrphanKind

Give them more than survival, Give them a future.

Your kindness can change a life forever and keep an orphan out of harm’s way. Right now, as you read this, over 153 million orphans are struggling to survive. Having lost one or both parents to war, disease, poverty, or disaster, these children have had their innocence stolen and their childhoods replaced with unimaginable pain.

In places like Gaza, Syria, and Afghanistan, where death and devastation have shattered the hearts and souls of millions of families, vulnerable children are left to pay the price – abandoned, scared, and alone.

At Penny Appeal, we refuse to let them face this hardship alone. For over 15 years, with the support of our generous donors, we’ve been providing orphans with care, stability, and protection. To date, we’ve facilitated over 121,000 orphan sponsorships, ensuring children receive nutritious meals, warm clothing, healthcare, and an education to build a brighter future – Insha’Allah.

Zaria's Story

After a sudden heart attack killed their father instantly, life became even more challenging for sisters Zaria and Samra who were already feeling the effects of being poor at just 6 years old.

Incredible donors like you sponsored the two sisters, paying for their education – Alhamdulillah! After their brother was forced to abandon his academic studies to support the family, Zaria and Samra were blessed with the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty once and for all. They were each provided with a safe play to stay, school uniforms, stationary, textbooks and hygiene items to ensure they have everything they need for their studies.

“We feel a deep sense of honour and gratitude for the support in our education and other financial assistance”

You too can transform a child’s life just like Zaria and Samra’s.

What Did the Prophet Say About Orphans?

What Did the Prophet Say About Orphans?

As Muslims, we have a duty to care for orphans, showing them compassion and kindness is said to be one of the most blessed ways to honour Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). The Holy Qur’an couldn’t be clearer about how we should treat the vulnerable children of the world.

The Prophet (ﷺ) was reported to have said:

“The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate.

The Power of OrphanKind

How Your Sponsorship Works

Our Orphan Kind programme is changing for the better.

From now on, your sponsorship will be deeply personal supporting one specific orphaned child and transforming their life in a meaningful, lasting way. For just £15 a month, you’ll join hands with seven other compassionate donors to give that child the love, care, and dignity they deserve. Together, your shared support provides not only material comfort but also spiritual blessings that ripple far beyond this life.

Imagine entering the highest station of Paradise alongside your fellow sponsors and the child whose life you changed- SubhanAllah, what a beautiful dream to build your legacy of good deeds upon!

And if you are able to do more, you can sponsor an orphan exclusively for £120 a month, becoming their sole supporter. With your dedicated help, they’ll receive everything they need to thrive: a safe home, nourishing food, warm clothing, quality education, healthcare, and the priceless gift of stability and hope.

Supporting Orphans Where They Belong – At Home

Penny Appeal has phased out residential care, choosing instead to support orphaned children directly within their own homes with trusted family members wherever it is safe and suitable. This approach is aligned with global best practice and ensures children remain rooted in their communities, surrounded by love, dignity, and familiarity.

After all, when Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) created the womb (Rahm) and asked what it desired, the Rahm replied that family ties should never be broken.

"The word 'ar-rahm (womb) derives its name from Ar-Rahman (i.e., one of the names of Allah) and Allah said: 'I will keep good relation with the one who will keep good relation with you, (womb, i.e. kith and kin) and sever the relation with him who will sever the relation with you, (womb, i.e. kith and kin).’" (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Orphan Sponsorships

This is the impact of your generosity. Together, we have provided food, water and vital support to those who need it most. Every donation, whether Sadaqah or Zakat, helps alleviate suffering and restore hope to communities facing unimaginable hardship.

We always aim to use your donation as intended. If that’s not possible, it will go to similar life-changing projects in the same country or a similar region. When you give to ‘where most needed’, your donation supports the world’s most vulnerable communities, based on expert guidance and our local partner insights. However you give, you can rest assured your donation is in the best hands!

What happens if the sponsored child leaves the programme?

Sometimes, a child may leave our sponsorship programme. This could be because they’ve moved to live with family in another area or have started attending a school outside of Penny Appeal’s support network. If that happens, your donations will still be used to help other vulnerable children in need. We’ll match you with another child in the programme, and you’ll receive updates about them, so that your kindness continues to make a difference. Of course, we’ll let you know about any changes, and it’s entirely your choice if you wish to continue your sponsorship or bring it to a close.

Can I write to my sponsored orphan?

It is possible to write a letter to your sponsored orphan, although it’s not always the best thing to do. Your orphan will be part of a class/orphan home, and if one child is showered with letters, it can be quite unsettling for the other children. Writing an open letter to the class/orphan home, which can be read out to everyone, is preferable as it ensures that all of the children feel included. Letters can be forwarded via our UK headquarters. If you would like to send an Eid gift to your orphan or send something to all of the children in the school or orphanage at any time of the year, please call us on 03000 11 11 11.

Can I choose which child to sponsor?

You can select in which country you would like to sponsor a child and whether you would like to sponsor a boy or a girl. If you set up a sponsorship online, simply select the country from the options and write in the comments box if you have a preference for sponsoring a boy or girl. If you set up your sponsorship by post or phone, simply tell us your preference. We will do our best to meet your requests. If you do not specify, we will select an orphan where we feel the sponsorship is most needed.

What information and updates will I recieve?

Initially, you will receive a welcome pack which includes a profile of your sponsored child, and information about their background and their country of residence. After completing a year of this sponsorship, you will then receive a feedback report on your sponsored child’s progress. The report will also include a recent photograph, a brief message from and a drawing from your child (depending on their age and writing ability).

I can no longer afford the monthly payment for my sponsorship. What can I do?

Please get in touch with us before cancelling your monthly payment, so that you can still help us provide life-saving aid. It also helps if you tell us first so that we can update our records and cancel the sponsorship. If you are unable to sponsor a child for £15 a month, there is another way you can help! Donations of any amount can also be made to our Orphan Fund and further support the project, and the children in general.

Your Feedback Reports:

When you sponsor through our Orphan Kind programme, your generosity doesn’t go unnoticed, and neither does its impact. You’ll receive regular updates that show the real difference you’re making in a child’s life. Our reports include both a broad overview of how the programme is transforming lives across communities and personalised feedback about the specific child you’re supporting. Please note, Penny Appeal operates a direct orphan sponsorship model, meaning your sponsorship is assigned to one specific orphan.

You will join seven other generous donors, each giving £15 a month, to help transform that child’s life. If you wish, you can also choose to become their exclusive sponsor with a gift of £120 a month. Whether you’re part of a team of sponsors or taking on the full sponsorship yourself, your support directly nurtures that child while giving them safety, stability, and the chance to thrive. You’ll witness their journey, see them grow and heal, and know that your kindness is helping them hope again.
