Right now, as you read this, millions of children are growing up without the love, guidance and security that they need, and rightfully deserve. Most of them have lost one or both of their parents to war, poverty, natural disasters or illness – leaving their innocent lives shattered far too soon.
In places like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, these children are left alone to navigate through a world full of miseries. Poverty and despair have cast long shadows over their young lives, forcing them to fend for themselves. But together, we can give them more than just protection – we can give them purpose, helping them thrive, flourish and succeed in all walks of life.
At Penny Appeal, we believe in restoring hope and honouring the sacred status of orphans. Through our Hifz Orphan programme, we’ve been helping children not only survive, but truly thrive – by giving them the opportunity to become Hafiz of the Noble Qur’an, while receiving all the love, care, and support they need to grow.
Shaheen's Story
At just 13 years old, Shaheen carries the weight of responsibility far beyond his years. As the eldest of seven siblings, he has faced unimaginable hardship in his short life so far. His father, a Doctor, was tragically killed in Afghanistan’s ongoing conflict, leaving Shaheen’s family struggling to survive.
With no other choice, Shaheen worked as a grocery store cleaner, scrubbing the floors after school and therefore sacrificing his childhood to help support his family. Education was a dream slipping away until your support changed everything.
Thanks to Penny Appeal's Hifz Orphan Sponsorship, Shaheen has been freed from the grip of poverty and now spends his days memorising the Holy Qur’an - Alhamdulillah! With renewed hope, he dreams of becoming a doctor like his father, using both his faith and knowledge to serve those in need.

How does it work?
You will be allocated an orphan who will embark on their Qur’anic journey - Alhamdulillah! Your sponsorship will also ensure this vulnerable child is blessed with nutritious food, a loving home and all the other resources they need.
Your sponsored Hifz orphan will learn the stages of becoming a Hafiz of the Qur’an. Begining with Iqra (اقرأ) - reading, then mastering Tahfidh (تحفيظ) - memorisation, and finally Tajweed (تجويد) - the proper pronunciation and recitation.
You can make sure that a child who formally had nothing has all the equipment they need for their education and activities! Your sponsored Hifz Orphan will graduate from the programme having also learnt the mainstream curriculum, allowing them to thrive.
Finally, as your Hifz continues to practice Muraja'ah (مراجعة) - the act of revising the Qur’an, you will receive a feedback report so you can see first hand the incredible impact you have had on an orphan’s life.
The Power of Direct Hifz Sponsorship
For just £21 a month, you can support an orphaned child on their sacred journey to becoming a Hafiz of the Holy Qur’an. Our sponsorships are now direct. i.e. your donation will personally support a specific child, providing them with daily Hifz classes, quality academic education, nutritious meals, warm clothing, and essential medical care.
You’ll be joining hands with seven other compassionate donors to give that child the love, care and dignity that they truly deserve. Every verse they memorise, every prayer they recite-you’ll share in the reward. What a powerful legacy to leave behind. And if you’re able to go further, you can choose to sponsor a Hifz orphan entirely on your own for £168 a month, covering every aspect of their care with your devoted support. As part of our evolving Hifz Orphan programme, children are being lovingly transitioned from residential care to their own homes, where they can thrive spiritually and emotionally, surrounded by love, safety, and community, Insha’Allah.

Supporting Orphans Where They Belong – At Home
Penny Appeal has phased out residential care, choosing instead to support Hifz orphan children within their own homes, with trusted family members whenever it is safe and suitable to do so. This approach aligns with global best practice and allows children to remain rooted in their communities, surrounded by love, dignity, and familiarity.
Because in Islam, the home is more than a shelter – it is the foundation of mercy, care and connection. The Prophet (ﷺ) beautifully said: “He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young and honour our elders.” (Tirmidhi) With your support, we can honour this prophetic teaching – ensuring every orphan is cared for with gentleness, raised in faith, and empowered through the words of the Qur’an.

You’ll receive regular updates that show the real difference you’re making in a child’s life. Our reports includes a both a broad overview of how orphans like yours are being helped all over the world. Please note, Penny Appeal operates a direct orphan sponsorship model, meaning your sponsorship is assigned to one specific orphan.
You join seven other generous donors, each giving £21 a month, to help transform that child’s life. Your support directly nurtures that child while giving them safety, stability, and the chance to thrive. You’ll witness their journey, see them grow and heal, and know that your kindness is helping them hope again.

Penny Appeal will endeavour to use your gift as requested, wherever possible. If for any reason we cannot use your donation as you have indicated, we will use it to fund similar projects in other countries or other projects in the relevant country. Penny Appeal’s strategic overview and on the ground experience means it is in the best position to decide how to meet need as it arises.
