Super Muslim Comedy Tour given 'Highly Commended' certificate at British Muslim Awards

Penny Appeal’s beloved Super Muslim Comedy Tour has been honoured with a ‘Highly Commended’ prize at the 2022 British Muslim Awards.

The tour has become a celebrated occasion in the Penny Appeal calendar over the years. It provides hilarious family-friendly entertainment, raises funds for lifesaving projects, and allows young volunteers to get involved in fundraising and be part of the #TeamOrange movement for social change.

It was an honour and a privilege to see the tour, and all who make it possible, recognised for their achievements by the wider community.

The Super Muslim Comedy Tour first hit stages back in 2015. Adeem Younis, founder of Penny Appeal, said: "it’s good to know that seven years later, the legacy continues, the market is there, the audiences are still there. If we were to put on a comedy tour every month, I know we'd still pack the house out because it's the type of entertainment that is needed in our community. Hats off and rounds of applause to all the nominees as well as the Spirit of Britain award winner, Samah Khalil, for her fantastic achievements.”

Back in 2018, we won the prestigious Bond International Development Award at a glittering ceremony in London. This award was given for work on our Forgotten Children campaign, which was funded and promoted through the Super Muslim Comedy Tour. Four years later, we’re immensely proud that it’s still being honoured and recognised. From glamourous government-funded institutions to grassroots community awards, it seems everyone in our society has a need for lifesaving laughter. 

At this year’s awards, we were blessed to rub shoulders with so many inspiring British Muslims doing fantastic things for their communities. While it was a fabulous honour to be deemed ‘Highly Commended’ among a dozen nominees, it was also humbling to meet so many other inspirational figures who are working tirelessly to help our society.

Things are only going to get bigger and better for the Super Muslim Comedy Tour – which, under Penny Appeal, has acted as a catapult for comedy stars such as Abdullah Afzal and Jeff Mirza on their flights to mainstream success.

The laughter is still saving lives. We’ll be back with more fantastic performers in October 2022. See you at a show!
