Blackboards to Boardrooms: Ridwana's Podcast Debut
Our orange CEO, Ridwana Wallace-Laher hasn’t always been the humanitarian hero she is today, but she has always had a passion for inspiring others. Ridwana’s journey began with a passion for education. As a dedicated secondary school teacher for over a decade, she nurtured young minds and aspired to make a positive impact on her students. Although her career in education was thriving, Ridwana’s volunteering efforts on the side were what kickstarted her charity journey. Ridwana caught up with Ellevate Network in their podcast series: Conversations with Women Changing the Face of Business, to tell them where it all began.
After realising her potential in the charity sector, Ridwana finally decided to take a leap of faith, exploring another avenue outside of education. Embracing change, she ventured into the world of growth at Penny Appeal and started making huge impressions on her fellow humanitarian colleagues. Hard work and dedication to Penny Appeal’s mission of helping those less fortunate is what saw Ridwana climb through the ranks, along with her ability to lead others. And soon enough this typically male-dominated industry finally saw a woman appointed as CEO of a Major Muslim UK charity.
In this exclusive episode and Ridwana’s podcast debut, she goes into detail about changing careers, breaking barriers, and life as a CEO.
