One of the greatest things about fasting during Ramadan is that Muslims, as a community, fast together. You’re fasting, your friends are fasting and your neighbours are fasting as well; the beauty of this communal act is that everyone is coming together in solidarity to celebrate their devotion to Allah (swt).
Fasting enables us to reflect on our faith and put a spotlight on devotion and charitable giving. During the holy month of Ramadan, the strength in each of us provides strength for the community.
If we’re fasting as a community, then what better way is there to break that fast than with your community?
Penny Appeal invites you to join us in a community iftar, so you can break your fast with family, friends and the whole community. The Community Iftar 2019 gives you the opportunity to celebrate Ramadan with an evening of speakers, poetry, nasheeds and Qur’an recitation, while enjoying a mouth-watering 3 course meal – no cooking required!
Throughout the month of Ramadan, we will be hosting iftars in 19 different cities, with a variety of nasheed acts and poetry to accompany each night. Vivacious musicians such as Alman Nusrat and Faisal Salah will kick off the iftar entertainment, with soulful melodies and captivating lyrical praise that will have everyone swaying in their seats.
Penny Appeal’s own, Inayat Kanji will keep the show going with his sensational spoken word, his lyrics of hope and positivity that truly embody the spirit of Ramadan. The talented Brother Abdullah will then wrap up the night in a big way, with passionate nasheeds sang from the heart. Burnley, Oldham and Bolton will see Mikhaael Mala close their iftar, his voice sending everyone off in a wave of inspiration and reflection.
Community iftar celebrations will start on the 12th of May, in London, before continuing on through Ramadan in various locations, with our final iftar landing in Coventry on the 31st. The Community Iftar 2019 will be a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community this Ramadan and break your fast over a wonderful meal with the ones you love.
The price of a ticket is £5, but it buys so much more than a simple night of fun and a delicious meal with your family. While savouring time with family and friends, you will also be saving lives and helping communities. All the proceeds from the Community Iftar 2019 will go to Penny Appeal’s Fragile Lives appeal.
Our Fragile Lives appeal provides mothers and babies in Pakistan and Kenya with proper medical care and nutritious meals, as well as offering education and training for mothers so they can learn to provide for their families for years to come. We also work closely with doctors and midwives to support them in caring for pregnant women, new mothers and babies. You can help Pakistan and Kenya’s poorest mothers and babies by providing them with the care they so desperately require, and all for the price of a delicious iftar and delightful evening!
FRAGILE LIVES
The Community Iftar 2019 is a great chance to help others this Ramadan, while having a terrific night and indulging in delectable, halal food. Doors open at 7pm, so make sure to have your tickets on hand and be ready for a fantastic evening of family fun for the whole community.
