SKY News speaks to Adeem Younis about the ongoing work Penny Appeal has been carrying out in Afghanistan
The situation in Afghanistan is a crisis like no other. Penny Appeal has several years of experience working in the country, addressing the needs of a population that have faced a huge variety of hardships.
The unique situation that has arisen from the Taliban takeover in the country has presented many challenges, and Penny Appeal are currently focused on providing aid to both the IDPs in Afghanistan and the refugees newly arriving in the UK.
When working in crisis-hit countries, Penny Appeal employs a dual-phased approach that begins with emergency assistance, before implementing a sustainable system of support that guides individuals, families, and entire communities through their recovery. Over the years, we have built a strong foundation in Afghanistan and formed close working partnerships with local teams. This has enabled us to quickly provide the urgent essentials that the IDPs desperately need, including food parcels, hygiene kits, and clothing. By providing these essentials, we have enabled our partner teams on the ground to cover the basic needs of those affected, aiding their survival until the situation begins to stabilise.
Penny Appeal urges those who wish to help to donate to the emergency Response appeal so that we can continue to empower local partners to provide direct support to the people who need it most.
