As everyone prepares for the new academic year, we’re celebrating the importance of education and learning all around the world. We believe in a world where every child is given the opportunity to study and prosper in life. That’s why we are proud to have such an incredibly successful orphan programme that works to ensure vulnerable orphan children, often from poverty-stricken backgrounds, can also learn and be nurtured in a safe and loving environment – together we are ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to study and learn.
There are an estimated 153 million orphans in the world. Whether through war, poverty, disease or natural disaster, more and more children are going without a parent or guardian to provide basic protection and guidance. Here at Penny Appeal, we believe in a future for every child no matter their circumstances, that’s why we founded our OrphanKind project. We have transformed the lives of children across the globe by facilitating the sponsorship of over 102,000 orphans!
Many orphans face a life of fear, vulnerability, and poverty, often falling victim to crime and exploitation. Our sponsorship project provides education, opportunities and most importantly, a safe place to call home. Education is a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of poverty; empowering a child to learn and reach their full potential can grant them freedom from generations of hardship. A safe space to live, learn and grow provides a child with everything they need to succeed.
So as the children here in the UK gear up to go back to school, we are proud to be supporting orphan children who to are able to get excited about getting back to learning after the holidays.
Caring for orphans has huge significance in Islam; it is known that the Prophet (ﷺ) lost his father before he was born and then became an orphan at just 6 years old after losing his mother to an illness. Because of this, He (ﷺ) would always treat orphans with respect and advocate for them throughout his life. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was reported to have said “the one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to demonstrate.
