When is Dhul Hijjah 2021?
Key dates and events for Dhul Hijjah 2021
Allah (SWT), who made this world and everything in it, made some months greater than others and Dhul Hijjah is one of them.
Dhul Hijjah is the final month in the Islamic calendar, the month in which Muslims all over the globe embark on Hajj and offer their Qurbani sacrifices for the love of Allah (SWT). The first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah are actually the most sacred days of the whole year, and our Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) tells us that, “There are no days in which good works are more beloved to Allah than these days.” (Bukhari).
The Dhul Hijjah 202dates are expected to be from July 11 – 2August, but with the Islamic calendar following a lunar cycle, these dates could be subject to change. The Dhul Hijjah 202dates need to be properly confirmed by the sighting of the new moon, but when they do come around we are truly in for a blessed month.
What Day of Dhul Hijjah is Hajj?
What day of Dhul Hijjah is Hajj? Multiple days! This holy pilgrimage starts during the first 10 days of the Dhul Hijjah 202dates, and as Hajj begins millions of our brothers and sisters would usually be traveling to Makkah but regrettably, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Hajj has been cancelled this year.
Despite Hajj not taking place in 2021, you can still celebrate Dhul Hijjah at home by reading the Qur’an, making dhikr, fasting and giving charity. We will also be sharing facts, history and hadiths about the holy pilgrimage on our social media as part of our Virtual Hajj, so you can still experience blessings and barakah from home.
Dhul Hijjah and Hajj itself are all about showing our devotion to Allah (SWT), so even though many of us will be missing out on our pilgrimages this year, we can still enjoy this blessed month and the other special days that come along with it like the Day of Arafat and Eid ul-Adha.
When is the Day of Arafat?
The Day of Arafat takes place on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah and is a day filled with fasting and worship. On the Day of Arafat, people who have made the journey to Makkah will gather on Mount Arafat to make dua and pray for Allah’s (SWT) forgiveness. This is one of the most special events of Hajj and is the final destination for all pilgrims. It is so special in fact, that Hajj without visiting Mount Arafat is considered incomplete.
Although we cannot make the trip to Makkah this year, there are still ways of observing the Day of Arafat from home, such as fasting for the day and showing our devotion to Allah (SWT). “Fasting on the day of Arafah expiates the sins from the past and coming years" [Muslim], so it’s important that we know when the 9th of Dhul Hijjah is to make sure we can fast on the Day of Arafat. In 2020 the Day of Arafat will be celebrated on Thursday July 30!
Dhul Hijjah, a Time for Qurbani
During the first 10 blessed days of Dhul Hijjah, we prepare to make our Qurbani sacrifices on the days of Eid ul-Adha to show our devotion and obedience to Allah (SWT). Our Qurbani is an important part of Dhul Hijjah because not only are we celebrating the devotion that the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) showed to Allah (SWT) but we are also offering up our own devotion to Him as well.
The sacrifices we make each Dhul Hijjah show the Almighty that we put him before everything else in our lives and that our earthly attachments mean nothing in comparison to His saving grace.
Qurbani needs to be carried out according to strict Islamic guidelines, and the animals used need to be healthy and well cared for. As an Islamic charity, we understand the importance of this blessed act and take your Qurbani obligations to heart. Penny Appeal have been doing Qurbani around the world for 9 years now, and we take every care when choosing your animal and delivering on your sacrifice.
Make your sacrifice with Penny Appeal this Dhul Hijjah and celebrate Eid ul-Adha knowing that your Qurbani is being enjoyed by our sisters and brothers throughout Asia, Africa or even right here at home in the UK.
