Duas for Yemen
Yemen is experiencing the world’s worst humanitarian disaster.
For over 5 years, the people of Yemen have endured unimaginable suffering due to a brutal war.
Millions are starving due to famine, disease is spreading and the health care system has collapsed.
The scale of human suffering is unprecedented in modern times.
But it gets worse. According to the United Nations, COVID-19 could “delete Yemen from maps all over the world.”
If there ever was a time for us to come together to help the people of Yemen, it’s now. Yemen and the people of Yemen have always held a special place in our tradition. Our Prophet (ﷺ) taught us in many ahadith about Yemen; that the land and its people are especially blessed. As we seek to help those who are suffering in Yemen, we should take this opportunity to reflect on the significance of this blessed land and connect our hearts to that which the heart of our beloved Messenger was attached to.
Ahadith about Yemen
In addition to donating, we should also pray for Yemen and learn more about it’s significance in our faith. There are dozens of beautiful hadiths about Yemen; we’ve compiled some below.
The Prophet is Yemeni
“…The best of men are the men of Yemen, belief itself is Yemeni, and I am Yemeni.”
[Ahmad]
Faith is from Yemen
“Faith is from Yemen…”
[Muslim]
The Prophet (ﷺ) asks Allah to bless Yemen
“O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham! O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen."
[Bukhari]
Yemeni hearts are tender
There have come the people of Yemen; they are tender of hearts, belief itself is Yemeni, understanding (of the faith) is Yemeni and wisdom is Yemeni.
[Muslim]
Duas for Yemen
The Prophet (ﷺ) also taught us powerful duas to make for our brothers and sisters - and guided us in how to make dua not just for ourselves, but others too.
When the angels pray for you
“When a Muslim praysfor their brother or sister in their absence, the angels say: ‘May the same be for you too.'”
[Abu Dawud]
The Prophet (ﷺ) reminded us that a sincere dua is one Allah does not discount, as He loves to answer our prayers.
“Verily your Lord is Generous and Bashful. If His servant raises their hands to Him (in supplication) He is shy to leave them empty”
[Abu Dawud]
Yemen faces a triple threat: conflict, COVID-19 and a collapsing international response.
Let’s raise our hands in dua for Yemen. We pray that Allah (SWT) swiflty alleviates their suffering and returns to them their freedom and safety.
Penny Appeal are on the ground working tirelessly delivering food, water, hygiene kits, PPE and COVID-19 testing kits for hospitals and emergency centres. Over the past 5 years, we’ve helped over 82,000 Yemeni people, thanks to your incredible support. But the situation is worsening and there are still 24 million who need urgent humanitarian aid.
Your help is needed more than ever. We are one ummah - one heart - and we must do all we can to raise awareness, donate and make pray for Yemen.
