We Have Conquered Ben Nevis!
Congratulations to Team Orange for climbing Ben Nevis
We at Penny Appeal would like to say a huge congratulations and thanks to our amazing fundraisers who managed to raise over £50,000 hiking up the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis!
The team of over 100 fundraisers took on our Walk for Water challenge, hiking up Ben Nevis to raise money to build hundreds of wells which will provide clean, safe drinking water to thousands of people and help raise whole communities out of poverty in India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
With the majority of the group being first time trekkers, climbing a mountain for the very first time is a huge challenge – let alone the highest mountain in the country! But the challenge didn’t just start with climbing the mountain; each of our fundraisers had to raise a minimum of £300 to build at least one water well. From bake sales to masjid collections, over 100 amazing Team Orange participants hit their target (and then some!), raising over £50,000.
On the day before the challenge, our dedicated team set out on their lengthy journey to Ben Nevis in Scotland. It was an over 1000 mile return journey for our London coach, setting off at 2am and travelling for 15 hours. After a night’s rest in the accommodation we provided, the team were ready to go!
Battling with cold, wet and rainy conditions, the hike up the 4411ft mountain was a tough trek for our team. So, a massive congratulations is in order for our fantastic team of fundraisers! Despite the struggle, our team left in high spirits with plenty to be proud of – saving and improving thousands of lives as part of our Thirst Relief appeal. Well done, Team Orange!
