Catching up with our Trustees this Trustees’ Week!
Every year, trustees up and down the country are recognised and celebrated with their very own Trustees’ Week, and we’re delving into the thoughts of our very own trustees with some burning questions.
You may be wondering, what is the role of a trustee? In a nutshell, trustees are the unsung heroes of charitable organisations. They are the guiding force responsible for steering the strategic direction of the charity, ensuring it remains true to its mission and values. Their duties range from setting goals, managing resources, overseeing financial accountability, to making critical decisions that shape the future of the organisation. Trustees bring a wealth of expertise and diverse perspectives to the table. Their collective skills in areas such as finance, law, marketing, and governance are instrumental in directing charities towards success, and our incredible trustees here at Penny Appeal are no different.
We caught up with our trustees to gain a little bit of insight into their experience thus far and here’s what they had to say about their time with Penny Appeal:
‘I became a Trustee because I wanted to be able to give something back by offering my skills. I had been aware of Penny Appeal for a number of years previously and was impressed with the work that Adeem and his team do. The projects which resonate most with me are the OrphanKind appeal and Penny Appeal at Home which looks after the homeless on the streets of the UK.’ – Gill Laidler
‘It is rewarding to help communities and being a Trustee is a great way to learn new skills. It is a dynamic role, which puts me at the very heart of Penny Appeal and its work. This gives me an opportunity to liaise with a team of like-minded people. Being a trustee is a fantastic way to give something back to a cause I care about passionately. I play an important role in the way that Penny Appeal is run, ensuring it remains sustainable and financially viable. I offer my support, skills, expertise and network.’ – Mohammed Jahangir
This Trustees Week, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our trustees for their unwavering commitment, dedication, and vision. Their passion and selflessness drive the organisation forward, enabling us to continue on our mission of making a BIG difference in the lives of vulnerable people around the world. As we celebrate Trustees’ Week 2023, let us acknowledge and honour the remarkable individuals who dedicate themselves to the service of others. Thank you, trustees!
