London Eid Festival 2018

Thank you for coming!

We were so pleased to see so many people at the Eid festival in Trafalgar Square, London this year! It was great to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, a joyous time of celebration, with the thousands of lovely people that came.

This is now the 13^th year the event has been running for, hosted by London mayor Sadiq Khan, and this may very well have been the biggest one yet! There was a massive range of musical talent and performers from all over the country who came together to make this an extra special evening of family fun. With great food and plenty of activities to take part in, it was such a great experience to take a bite into Muslim culture this year!

Penny Appeal is so proud to have been invited to take part in the event. Our brilliant team of volunteers were on hand to provide tasty healthy snacks for all the excitable people, who were well in need of something cool and refreshing in the scorching 23° weather we were so lucky to have!

Everyone was quick to jump on our ‘blender bikes’, pedal powered blenders which made cool refreshing smoothies in an eco-friendly way. 1,150 smoothie cups were blended in this way, providing a tasty, hearty drink as well as a bit of exercise. We also gave out around 3,500 juicy oranges, providing a well needed snack after a day of festivities!

It was so great to see everyone sharing their selfies with us on our social media pages, it made our day to see so many smiling faces at this fantastic annual event. We hope that we have the opportunity to come back next year and celebrate the end of the holy month together all over again!
