Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Forgiveness)
The last ten nights of Ramadan bring with them an air of eagerness and a deep yearning to connect with Allah (SWT). And among these sacred nights, lies one that is more powerful than a thousand months—Laylatul Qadr, also known as The Night of Power or The Night of Decree.
Allah tells us in the Quran:
"Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months." (Surah Al-Qadr 97:1-3)
A night worth more than a thousand months, almost equivalent to 83 years! Imagine, being able to spend just one night in deep reflections and pouring our hearts to Allah (SWT), seeking forgiveness, making reforms and being rewarded for 83 years’ worth of worship. All we can say is, Subhan’Allah!
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) being our most incredible role model, set the ultimate example for us during these final nights of Ramadan.
Aishah (RA) narrated:
"When the last ten nights of Ramadan came, the Prophet would tighten his belt (exert himself in worship), spend the night in worship, and wake his family up for prayer." (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)
He would push himself beyond his usual acts of worship, staying up in prayer, reciting Qur’an, making heartfelt duas, and seeking Allah’s (SWT) mercy. He knew the immense value of Laylatul Qadr and didn't let it slip away. If we were to look at our own selves, how often do we find ourselves struggling to pray Isha and Fajr on time, let alone engage in extra ibadah like Tahajjud?
But if we remind ourselves of the efforts undertaken by the most blessed personality- of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) actions, we realise that we, too, can step up our game, even if in small ways.
While going through daily chaos of life, we need to remember that Allah (SWT) sees our efforts. If you’re struggling with consistency, know that He loves even the smallest good deeds, if done consistently and with pure intentions. If you feel distant from Him, know that He is nearer to you than your jugular vein. (Qur’an 50:16)
Let us make the most of Laylatul Qadr in 2025 by praying with sincerity. Be it Taraweeh, Tahajjud or simply a dua from the bottom of our hearts. He is As-Samī‘ (ٱلسَّمِيعُ) – The All-Hearing and Al-Mujīb (ٱلْمُجِيبُ) – The Responsive One and has assured in the Qur’an:
"And when My servants ask you concerning Me, indeed I am near. I respond to the call of the supplicant when he calls upon Me."— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:186)
Seek forgiveness as much as you can and repeat the dhikhr:
"Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni"
(O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.) (Tirmidhi)
Recite even a few verses of the Qur’an. Let them sink into your heart and reflect on their meaning as it’s the blessed Book which is the ultimate manual and guidance for humanity.
The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of people, and his generosity increased in Ramadan. We can make use of His (ﷺ) teachings, his Sunnah by giving generously and reaching out to those who still have faith in humanity. Your Ramadan charity on this blessed night would be the difference between despair and hope.
Don’t let this blessed opportunity of Laylatul Qadr pass without making a difference in someone’s life. Donate now to one or more of our chairty appeals and reap the rewards forever, Insha’Allah.
“.... Whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will find it with Allah far better and more rewarding.” (Surah Muzammil: 20)
