How Hazrat Khadija (RA) Redefined Success
Every year, on the tenth of Ramadan, we remember a woman who showed us the true meaning of empowerment. Be it her financial independence, her resilience or her profound professionalism, Ummul Momineen- Mother of all Believers, Hazrat Khadija (RA) has given us timeless lessons in all aspects of life.
Today marks the death of the beloved Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) wife Hazrat Khadija bint Khuwaylid who is also known as one of the best women of all times along with Hazrat Maryam bint Imran (Mother Mary), Hazrat Asiya (the righteous wife of Pharaoh), Hazrat Fatima bint Muhammad (beloved daughter of the Prophet (ﷺ) and Hazrat Khadija). But what is it that makes her so inspirational?
Was it because of her wealth and fame as an entrepreneur in a pre-Islamic Arabian male - dominated society? A society where baby girls were buried alive because sons were considered better ‘assets?’
Or her courage in challenging societal norms by being financially independent in a way that filled others with awe and respect for her?
Hazrat Khadija (RA) submitted herself entirely to the message of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in terms of her own identity, health, wealth and status through implementing the true essence of the Qur’anic verse we recite to this day,
“Whatever ˹pleasure˺ you have been given is ˹no more than a fleeting˺ enjoyment of this worldly life. But what is with Allah is far better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord” —) Qur’an 42: 36)
In 2025, many of us are guilty of over consumption and chasing materialistic pleasures bulet us take some time to look at some of the ways Hazrat Khadija (RA) has inspired us to walk towards a greater purpose.
Wealth and Financial Freedom
In a world where everyone is searching for financial freedom, many of us follow investment tips, hustle for side gigs, and dream of early retirement.
Hazrat Khadija (RA) was one of the wealthiest women in Arabia, owning a trade empire that even the Quraysh elite admired. She gave away her entire wealth for Islam, financing the Prophet’s (ﷺ) mission, freeing slaves, feeding the hungry, and supporting persecuted Muslims.
“She supported me with her wealth when the people withheld from me.” (Sahih Muslim)
We can learn so much from Hazrat Khadija (RA), she teaches us that true wealth is not in how much we earn but in how much we give to others.
Social Status & Influence
In this digital era, many people obsess over followers, likes, and viral fame. Social media influencers dictate beauty, lifestyle, and what many view as success.
Hazrat Khadija (RA) was the most respected and beautiful woman in Makkah, titled “The Pure One” for her impeccable character. She sacrificed her social standing by supporting Islam. Once celebrated, she was shunned, insulted, and boycotted for standing by the Prophet (ﷺ) by the same society who craved association with her status. This teaches us that integrity matters more than popularity. Who we are in the eyes of Allah (SWT) is far greater than how the world perceives us.
Comfort & Luxury Lifestyle
Exotic holidays and designer clothes are all the craze these days. And while Hazrat Khadija (RA) had a life of luxury, she spent her last years in a state of hunger and hardship, exiled in the Valley of Shib Abi Talib. Once a woman of wealth, she passed away with nothing but faith. This teaches us that comfort is temporary but sacrifice for Allah (SWT) is eternal.
Health & Anti-Aging
The best skincare routines, anti-aging serums and fitness programmes can helto delay aging and let us stay youthful. Although Hazrat Khadija (RA) had beauty, grace, and strength, years of suffering in exile weakened her body, leading to her passing. Yet, her legacy remains ageless. The best way to leave a lasting impact is not through youthful looks but good character and righteous deeds that live even when we are gone.
Power & Recognition
Many of us dream of leadership roles, promotions, and being acknowledged for our hard work. As a leader in business, Hazrat Khadija (RA) soon became a role model for women, and an esteemed figure in society. She sought no title or recognition for her sacrifices. Even after her death, the Prophet (ﷺ) continued solemnly honouring her and said, “Indeed, her love had been nurtured in my heart by Allah Himself.” (Muslim).
True power is in doing good that is a treasured secret between you and Allah (SWT).
Hazrat Khadija (RA) had everything people chase today—yet she willingly gave it all away for Allah’s (SWT) pleasure.
Today, as we struggle with our desires for wealth, comfort, and recognition, let us choose to redefine success through her eyes and know that:
- Success is not in how much money we have, but how much we spend in charity.
- Success is not in how many people praise us, but in how Allah (SWT) views us.
- Success is not in luxury, but in sacrificing for a greater purpose.
Throughout these blessed days of Ramadan, let us emulate Hazrat Khadija’s (RA) acts of kindness and reach out to those who do not have the means to free themselves from poverty, hunger and oppression. Let us do all we can to alleviate the suffering of our Ummah! Ameen!
Continue her mission and give your Sadaqah Jariyah Today.
