Eid Gifts all round at Birmingham Women's Hospital
As we progress through the last ten nights of the holy month of Ramadan, our efforts in spreading Eid blessings are already in full swing! Excitement and anticipation are high among our teams and community and with the special day just a few days away, we thought what better way to spread some Eid joy than with a bright orange visit to Birmingham Women’s Hospital.
Here at Penny Appeal, giving back to the communities we work so hard to serve is always at the forefront of our mission. Community holds immense importance to us, not only in work, but in faith too. This is why we’re always looking for new ways to give back, especially to incredible causes like this one.
Being in hospital can be a challenging and isolating time for anyone, that’s why we wanted to bring as many smiles to the faces of the patients at Birmingham Women’s Hospitaas possible. Some of the women there are battling long term illnesses and injuries, so having some new faces to chat to really lifted their spirits. We talked to women from all walks of life across several wards about their families, interests, treatments, and their plans for once they leave hospital. It was great to receive such a warm reception from the patients and staff members alike.
Our very own CEO, Ridwana Wallace-Laher, personally oversaw the entire visit, adding an overall thought to her reasoning behind our special delivery: ‘it is really important for us to give out gifts to the women, who unfortunately have had to be in hospital for a while, some of them will hopefully be getting discharged just before the Eid period. Everyone knows that being in hospital can be quite daunting, so it’s just our way of giving something back and bringing some smiles to their faces.’
Ramadan is a time of reflection and compassion, while Eid is a celebration of kindness and generosity. The simple act of exchanging a smile, a conversation, or a gift with someone, especially someone who is going through hard times, embodies the overall spirit of Eid, and is just one way in which small change makes a BIG difference. Yesterday’s visit to Birmingham Women’s Hospital reminds us of the true meaning of Eid. After the food, clothes, and celebrations, we are reminded that we can always find ways to spread joy and kindness to those around us.
We’d like to extend a BIG, orange thank you to Birmingham Women’s Hospital for facilitating this visit!
