Best foot forward: running for Penny Appeal
One of Penny Appeal’s founder sponsors, Chris Marshall, has raised nearly £700 for Penny Appeal by taking part in the Admiral Swansea 10k run www.swanseabay10k.com.
He completed the challenge in 61 minutes and 22 seconds, narrowly missing his goal of running the 6.2 miles in less than an hour.
Chris, who only took up running in April, said: “Six months ago, I couldn’t run one kilometre, let alone ten. This was my first attempt at a long distance and it has been a real challenge. I’m really pleased that I managed to complete the run, and at least I’ve got a target to beat next year now.
And, of course, I’m absolutely delighted that I managed to raise around £700 (including Gift Aid) for Penny Appeal. It’s a great cause and I know that every penny of the sponsorship will go to where it is needed most.
I made sure that everyone who sponsored me knew that they would be helping to make an immediate difference to the lives of at least 200 underprivileged people in the Konsh Valley – and it was a great incentive for me to keep going on the day!”
