A Night Better Than 1,000 Months

“Surely, We revealed it on the Night of Power. And what will make you comprehend what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend in it by the permission of their Lord for every affair, Peace! it is till the break of the morning.”

As we reflect on the 27th night of Ramadan, we must remember what a special night this is. Alhamdulillah, most scholars believe Laylatul Qadr – the Night of Power – to fall on the 27th Night of Ramadan. This is the night when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It is a night of immense blessings, mercy, and forgiveness.

It has been said that spending one night in devotion and worship during the Night of Power is better than 1,000 months of any other kind of prayer or fasting. That’s one of the things that’s so special about this night –it could hold such profound spiritual rewards for those who make the effort to seek it out.

On this night, one should take time to reflect and meditate on Allah’s (SWT) message and guidance, turning towards Him in sincere repentance for any transgressions or shortcomings. It is a time of introspection and soul searching – of dealing with our inner-selves and purifying our intentions.

One should also strive to perform as many acts of worship as possible on this night, such as praying extra prayer, reading the Quran, making dua and seeking forgiveness from Allah (SWT). Doing so will surely bring us closer to Him and increase our chances of attaining His mercy and blessings.

If you miss the 27th night, don’t worry! The Night of Power could also fall on the 29th night of Ramadan. So, continue to seek this special night and make sure to take advantage of its blessings!  Insha’Allah, the best reward awaits those who are truly seeking it.
