100 Women Empowerment Event: Our CEO Speaking at the House of Lords
By Ridwana Wallace-Laher.
I am incredibly honoured and humbled to have had the opportunity to speak at the 100 Women Empowerment Event held at the illustrious House of Lords. It is with great enthusiasm that I shared with attendees a glimpse into my journey from being a humble "bucket shaker" to navigating the corridors of power in the boardroom. As I stood before an audience filled with aspiring leaders, change-makers, and advocates for gender equality, I couldn't help but reflect on the twists and turns that have defined my path. My story is not just my own; it is a testament to the resilience, determination, and unwavering belief in oneself that countless women around the world possess.
I started my career as a Secondary School Teacher but soon took to shaking buckets to raise vital funds for manlocal charities. While the work was physically demanding and the hours long, it instilled in me a deep sense of purpose and a passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Little did I know that those early days would serve as the foundation for my future leadership journey. With each challenge I faced and every obstacle I overcame, I grew stronger and more determined to carve out a path of success for myself. I seized every opportunity for growth and development, never allowing the limitations placed upon me by society to define my worth or potential. Through hard work, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, I gradually ascended the ranks within my organisation. I refused to be confined by the narrow confines of societal expectations, breaking through barriers and shattering glass ceilings along the way.
As I stand proudly before you as a "boardroom boss," I am acutely aware of the responsibility that comes with this title – the responsibility to uplift and empower those who come after me, just as others have done for me. I am committed to paying it forward, advocating for gender parity, and creating inclusive environments where all individuals can thrive and succeed. But my journey is far from over. There is still much work to be done, many battles to be fought, and many barriers to be dismantled. However, I am optimistic about the future, knowing that together, we can create a world where every woman has the opportunity to rise to her fullest potential. I want to express my deepest gratitude to Lord Wajid Khan, the staff at the 100 Club and for family, friends and colleagues for always supporting me and for providing a platform to amplify diverse voices and champion the cause of gender equality. Let us continue to stand together, united in our commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
