Lebanon Emergency

A catastrophic explosion rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut on August 4th, 2020, leaving more than 200 dead and 6,500 injured, three years on and the people of Lebanon are still in need of support to help them rebuild their lives.

The country went into a state of emergency after the blast, the destruction left over 300,000 people homeless.

Right now in Beirut, Penny Appeal are working closely with our partners on the ground to provide emergency aid, including emergency food packs, hygiene kits, shelter and psychosocial support for those who were affected by the blast.

Years have passed, but the impact remains immense

“Whoever saves a life, it is as if they have saved all of humanity.” (Qur'an 5:32)

In the immediate aftermath of the 2020 explosion, hospitals were overwhelmed, police were frantically searching for missing people and 300,000 people were left stranded with nowhere to live.

In the aftermath, Penny Appeal and our partners helped 23,691 people in Lebanon, through the delivery of 21,000 hot meals, 7,080 food packs, 2,330 hygiene kits, 500 medical consultations, as well as community psychosocial support and shelter programming.

The long-term effects of this catastrophic blast are major, with political problems and the ongoing impacts of the pandemic.

The country is home to over 1.7 million Syrian and Palestinian refugees, making up almost a quarter of the country’s population. The economic impact of this disaster has devastated already struggling families, and the poorest and most vulnerable have been hit hard.

You can make a difference today. You can help rebuild their lives.

Donate now to our Lebanon Emergency Appeal and help the vulnerable survivors of the Beirut blast rebuild their lives!
