It's Pakistan Independence Day 2024!
This Pakistan Independence Day, we’re honouring the spirit of Pakistan and the incredible resilience of its people as well as the incredible impact we have had on the nation. Every year on the 14th of August, the world observes Pakistan’s anniversary of independence from the British colonial rule, which occurred in 1947. As Pakistan celebrates its 77th birthday, we’re reflecting on the nation’s journey, its struggles, and its triumphs.
Since Penny Appeal’s inception back in 2009, we’ve directly supported millions in Pakistan through feeding initiatives, sustainable water solutions, mosque construction, orphan sponsorships, education projects and many more.
Let’s dive into YOUR impact! Over 183 billion glasses of water have been served from 18,000+ wells, 400+ community water supply schemes, and 30 solar panel water and power centres built by you – Alhamdulillah! We’ve also made almost 1 million daily prayers possible thanks to the 30+ masjids built by our incredible donors, not to mention over 75,000 children’s lives which have been totally transformed by OrphanKind sponsorships. This is just some of the incredible impact statistics we’ve been able to facilitate in Pakistan alone thanks to your generosity.
We all have a great love for Pakistan here at home, but how is Pakistan Independence Day celebrated in the homeland? Government buildings and famous landmarks are luminated with the country’s national flag colours of green and white with celebrations happening across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar. Last night, on the eve of Independence Day, fireworks filled the sky as citizens took to the streets to show their pride and love for their country.
As we celebrate the achievements of Pakistan, we must also remember the challenges that remain. Pakistan’s economic crises have deepened with poverty, inflation, and unemployment soaring, further jeopardizing millions of people’s rights to health, food, and an adequate standard of living. As climate change grips our planet, Pakistan remains vulnerable to its impact, with extreme weather systems more likely and more frequent. With millions in Pakistan still grappling with the aftermath of the deadly floods of 2022, we can only imagine the devastating consequences more unpredictable weather episodes could mean for the nation - Subhan'Allah.
Our mission to support our brothers and sisters in Pakistan remains; we are dedicated to providing long-term relief from poverty, water insecurity, homelessness, and hunger, as well as emergency support whenever it is needed. Join us in rebuilding the blessed land of Pakistan through our lifechanging appeals today!
