From Wakefield to The World
How Your Limitless Generosity and Our Chairman’s Vision Transformed 50 million Lives - Alhamdulillah!
Today, on the 17th of October, The International Day for The Eradication of Poverty, we shine a spotlight on our inspirational chairman and his team of visionary Trustees who transformed Penny Appeal. Taking the helm at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Mohammed Jahangir and the team quickly got to work recalibrating our focus as a global charitable organisation with a huge task of addressing the increasing need, poverty and deprivation that soon became apparent in our post pandemic world.
Alhamdulillah, presiding over the highest impact era in the history of Penny Appeal, your generous donations and their tireless voluntary commitment has allowed Penny Appeal to cumulatively transform over 50 million lives, feed over 49 million of our brothers and sisters at home and across the globe, facilitate over 121,000 orphan sponsorships and build thousands of life-saving water wells and water systems in the most remote parts of Africa, Asia and Palestine.
Alongside this, our new board of trustees also lead the largest program of transformational governance in the history of Penny Appeal introducing the most robust processes, procedures and governance leading to the conclusion of all regulatory enquiries to the satisfaction of statutory agencies.
However, we did none of this alone. With your generous donations, kind prayers, thousands of voluntary hours, phenomenal commitment to our challenge events, community events and so much more, together we have made Penny Appeal into the beacon of hope that it is today for so many in need.
Spanning five continents, seven offices, our poverty eradication initiatives have taken place in over 60 countries around the world, and our work is far from over. As so many will lay on the ground tonight as their mattress with the skies above them as their blanket, we must reinforce our commitment to the power of small change, big difference.
Revived from the traditions of the best of creation, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and inspired by the universal values of the Islamic faith, we can never underestimate the difference a pocket full of pennies, a small action, a small sacrifice can make.
As Penny Appeal’s Global Chairman, Mohammed Jahangir stood before our most honoured and esteemed orphan children officially opening their new home, our largest state of the art orphan village complex in the heart of Pakistan, he did so with a profound sense of humility and responsibility, with heartfelt gratitude to you, our beloved donors, who have entrusted us to deliver transformative change on your behalf.
Returning back home to the UK, in living true to our identity as a confidently Muslim comfortably British organisation, our chair leads the opening of our Penny Appeal community hub which is home to life changing services for our young people, senior citizens, newly arrived communities and people who need support in our hometown of Wakefield.
While we still have a long way to go until we can finally say that poverty is history, in the noble footsteps of our pious predecessors may Allah (SWT) be pleased with them, from the UK to Uganda, from Pakistan to Palestine, let’s recalibrate our intention, our focus and our unparalleled determination to serve our brothers and sisters in need and in doing so serve our creator Allah (SWT.).
May Allah accept our intentions, our humble efforts and forgive our shortcomings. Ameen.
