Providing aid to women in need

Through the Phoenix Fund, Penny Appeal and Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid are working to provide the victims of domestic abuse with emergency financial support to aid them in escaping the abusive relationships.

This fund is vital to supporting victims as they rebuild and move forward with their lives. We’re providing those who have suffered from domestic abuse with access to refuge, travel costs and even emergency parcels. This ensures women are safe and secure.

A life free from domestic abuse is possible. A life free of fear and violence is possible.

Emergency Parcels

You can provide a woman fleeing abuse with an Emergency Parcel that will give her all the items she needs to carry on. When fleeing from an abusive relationship, many women find themselves without access to any funds or even every day necessities once they have left their abusers. Our Emergency Parcels will provide women with the basics they need to care for themselves and their children, such as non-perishable food and hygiene products. 

Travel Costs

You can help women in need escape their abusers and get to safety. For many women seeking refuge, travel expenses are a huge hurdle. Raising the money to pay for a taxi, bus or train ticket can be extremely difficult if they don’t have easy access to their finances and without a way out, some women end up staying in their abusive relationships. With Women’s Aid’s new ‘Rail to Refuge’ scheme, women leaving abusive situations can receive free train travel but for those living in remote areas a little more support is needed to get them out of harm’s way.

 Emergency Accommodation

Women and children seeking a safe place to stay can’t always find a room at refuges because with high demand they’re at full capacity. You could help them stay safe in Emergency Accommodation until a space at a women’s refuge becomes available.

Clothing

You can provide women with clothing such as coats, shoes, jeans, socks and underwear, helping them find comfort and dignity as they start anew. When women do leave abusive partners or situations, panic, anxiety and fear can take hold, causing them to forget important personal items. We’re providing clothing to women and children who have gotten out of bad relationships, and helping them as they come to terms with the trauma they have experienced.

We provide a range of clothing for children as well as women, from new-borns to teenagers, and you can help us distribute them to those in need with a loving donation.

Household Items

After recovering at a women’s refuge, many women and children are re-housed in a safe location so that they can begin their new lives of fear-free freedom. These homes don’t always come fully furnished or even with basic appliances, so your donations would go a long way in helping create a warm and handy household environment.

You can donate a variety of items to help furnish a household such as kitchen items, living and dining room furniture, and bedroom furniture for both mother and child.
